23rd CALEMA MIDWINTERS WINDSURFING FESTIVAL:

Tuesday before the front

Antoine Albeau, PAtrice Belbeoch, already on the water today doing some practice. Winds were pretty good, sometimes it got on the wild side, but all in all a warm and breezy day.

On the Konas, the Sayre clan is here and they are all competing, and Dave Stanger, and the South Carolina crew are here enjoying some warm sailing. Tomorrow will get windy and chilly. Better now than during the Midwinters!!

The pros are swinging in and checking out the wind blowing at 15 from the north west and down to 12 and back up again. It is a chilly prep day today but the wind is cooperating. Check back for updates all weekend.

Just spoke with Antoine Albeau who had a good day on the water. Gonzalo had a scare that his windsurf board, fins and other vitals were lost on the way from Argentina via Maui. He is at the Orlando Airport retrieving his lost equipment much to his relief. Registration is in full force with windsurfers from all over the world checking in.

Discovering “real men wear pink” with some of the Brazilian windsurfers going for the baby pink Calema windsurfing shirts versus the basic blue. Others just blushed and said, No!”

Old guys and long boards rule! Dave, Dan and Mac, ride that wind to the finish and back to South Carolina!

  5. Shelley Says:

Formula A race just cancelled due to lack of wind. Longboards about to start. Kona winners about to be announced.

  6. Shelley Says:

Kona results first race: Dave Stanger in first; Nevin Sayer in second and John Collins in third. But a protest has been filed, so these are unofficial results.

Still nippy today, so far with lighter wind than yesterday.
